25 June 2012
Hey family,
here´s the weekly letter to Presidente Monestel.  Write me!  I want to know how the interviews went for Doug and Kyle and whatever news there is from everyone.
Love, hna tew

Dear Family,
I hope everyone is doing well.
Kyle, I hope that you are figuring out what you want to do.  It would be cool to have a brother at BYU again.
Mom, thanks for the letters.  Thanks for the birthday packages.  I liked the skirt and the shirt.  And everything :)  Could you send me a picture of the Miracle Ash?
Cheryl, thanks for the pictures and the letters.  You look skinny.
Kevin, congrats with your progress in school.
Doug and Dani, do not procrastinate the day of your repentance.  Write me.  I hope you are doing well.
Pablito, you could also write me.
Dad, thanks for the letter.  I wish I could talk to you.
I got your picture letter from when Kevin and Cher visited you all with the munchkins.  Thanks.  Nani and Tanner look soooo big!
Grandma Campbell, thanks for the letters, always!  You´re great and I love you a lot!
Grandma and Grandpa Tew, I hope you two are doing well!  I love you!
Well, I wrote a ton in my letter to President Monestel and there almost isn´t anything else to write.  These past three days have been a little crazy.  But, some good things have happened.  There are always good things.
Socorro went to church yesterday for the second time.  She is nicest person and she just wants to do what is right.
We planned a lesson for Enrique this morning.  When you are having FHE tonight, say a prayer that his heart will be softened and he will recognize what God wants him to do and that he´ll have the courage to do it.  When I was giving the numbers last night I asked Elder Tencio about what we can do with Enrique and he gave really good advice. He suggested that we ask Why do you think that God has given you an answer? Enrique had a really cool experience with the book of mormon.  I think that he´s probably just scared.  But he wants to preach the gospel.  In D&C 6 it says that Oliver Cowdery will be the means of helping many other people.  I like this section because it says don´t be afraid to do good.
I love people a lot more that I used to.  It´s good, but it also hurts a lot more to see people make wrong choices.  I feel a lot more love for all the people in La Borgoña.
Please pray for me and my investigators and the branch here.  Pray for Enrique and Roberta and Martin and Socorro.
I love you all,
 Love, hermana Tew

18 June 2012
Hey family,
How is everyone doing?  I was hoping to hear about how the interviews went with Doug and Kyle.
Thanks for the letter, Sue.  That`s great that Ellis got married.
Dad, actually, Hna Zapeta is from Chimaltenango.  Hna Silva is from the city.  Thanks for your letters and Happy Father`s Day.
Mom, you look skinny. Thanks for the packages!  I had a great birthday.  In fact it was so great that it kind of weirded me out a little.  I figured you all must have been praying for me, because it was a really good day.
Paul, nice to hear from you!
Sorry I`m out of time, but I love you all and I hope everything is going well!
The addiction class went really well.  We invited people Thursday night with Hno Beteta, the teacher.  Three people told us that they would come.  And they all came!  We had 9 people there.  two families that we are teaching, Noel and Roberta and Enrique and Olga.  also, a less active, Daniel came.  Plus there were kids there. It was great!  There are a lot of people that need help.
We went with Enrique yesterday and talked about baptism a lot.  We didn´t have a plan for what we were going to talk about, but we started asking him the baptism interview questions and it came out that he has doubts about Joseph Smith and why there is only one true church.  So, we talked about the book of mormon, and we reminded him of how felt one day when he was reading.  He started talking again and said, I felt a great peace that day.  I felt something joyful come over me.  We asked him if he thought those came from Satan.  And he thought for a second or two and said, no.  So, we talked a lot about the book of mormon.  And we put a baptism date for the 30th of June.  He´s going to pray about it.
People have a lot of sins, and they really need to repent and be baptized.  If they don´t repent or get baptized, we don´t do anything.
We got a new branch president yesterday!!!!!  he is excited to work.  Yesterday he went to visit one of our investigators with one of our less actives.  Sweet!  The attendance yesterday was 72.  That`s about 15 people more this week!  Yay!
This Friday we went to Managua to listen to President Maynes with the North mission.  I talked to Hna Zapeta and that was really nice.  I miss her!  She told me that Claudia and Enrique had their baby!  President Monestel asked us if things in La Borgoña are getting better.  I really didn´t know what to say, because I don´t feel like we´ve done very much and we haven´t seen a difference.  But yesterday after talking with Enrique and a less active I felt like we have done something.  The Borgoña is better now.  And it will get better.  We are working more with members and the members are getting excited.  Last night with Douglas and Juana I felt perfectly happy, because he is happy becuase he is sharing the gospel. He hasn´t gone to church since I´ve been here, but now he wants to help someone else go to church.  He said he´s going to the fellowship night this Wednesday with the reference and he and Juana are also going to go to the addiction class this friday.
We now have a working hammock in the house
Thursday some men with fumigating masks and fumigators (that looked like bazookas, not that I actually know what a bazooka looks like) came to the borgoña to fumigate.  Needless to say, our companionship study was slightly interrupted.  The cockroaches came out.  We killed three and one of them was a monster.  Fun times! :)
Hna Silva played one of the primary birthday songs for me when I woke up and then sang me las mananitas. We changed our lunch appointment, so now we eat with a member and all the kids told me felicidades.  That was fun.  WE bought mamones from some kids on the street.  Hna Zapeta called me and sang me las mananitas with Yeri and hna Xiomara.  that night Hna Narvaez had a cake (cake is a big deal here) and a nice dinner.  They sang las mananitas again.  I love that song.  It was a good day.
Thanks for writing me.  I love you all!
Love, Mb

Dear Dad,
How are you?  I hope you are enjoying life. :)  Thanks for being a great dad.  thanks for always writing me.  I find a lot of peace in your letters.  I miss you and mom a lot.  sometimes i just want to give you a hug.  That'll be nice when I can see you again.  Are you still planning on retiring.  I think you should do it.
Yesterday we visited some people who confessed really serious sins to us.  They are both in the process of repentence and they both have seen changes in their lives thanks to the gospel.  there are so many people with problems - and they are big problem.  Elder Tencio, our district leader, visited with us last night and gave our investigator a reading assignment - mosiah 24.  I felt like reading it this morning and it was really appropriate for how I felt.  It's when Alma and his people pray to be able to bear their burdens.  It says that they bore their burdens with faith and patience so much that the Lord could free them.  I know that I don't have a lot of faith, or patience.  but I would like to have the faith and patience sufficient to feel my burdens lightened.
Being a missionary is pretty great.  I really feel love for all the people in  La Borgona.  I honestly want them to hear and accept the gospel.  Before it didn't matter as much to me, but now I feel really sad when someone rejects the gospel or falls.  Last Saturday one of our investigators greeted us in the street.  he was drugged up - he believes the BoM and he's gone to church two times before.  He has a little girl.  It just made me sad.  but there are ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS good things that happen.  there are always miracles.  By the faith of Ammon, Lehi and nefi, the Lamanites were converted and baptized.  I want to have that kind of faith.  and Mom's right: thinking positively isn't the same as having fiath, but it can help us or lead us to having faith.
Well, I miss you and Mom a lot.  Today I read about your trip to the Tetons.  Sounds like a lot of fun!  you also wrote that you were going to have the third somewhat annual Capron-Tew waterfight.  I think you're a little outnumbered, Dad.
2 July 2012
I hope you had a fun time and you were able to honor the Tew name in the battle :)  Um, a lot of the time I would just like to talk with you all.  today i went to a grocery store - like a legit store - and I felt so weird.  I almost started crying.  Not because I miss going to the grocery store.  I just felt really weird there.  There was so much food there and it was air conditioned.  there was cereal - like good cereal - and peanut butter and grape juice.  it was so strange.  Hna Silva and I were thinking about how fast these transfers have gone by.  And how fast the mission has gone by.  It makes me feel strange.  I want to enjoy all the moments more now.  I want to enjoy every opportunity and take advantage of what I have left.  Do you have any advice for me?  something I should do?  I'm open to suggestions.
I love you all a lot.  I know that I will be really blessed for serving right now and that others will be really blessed as well.
  Love, love, love
Hna  Tew
Everytime I see Enrique and Tami I think of you.  Enrique really loves his kids. And Tami always likes to be right next to him.  he always speaks softly to her and says things like "amor, vas a hacer la oracion?"  It makes me think of you.  I love you Dad! :)

11 Junio 2012
hey friends.
I hope you´re all doing well.  That the interviews went well kyle and doug.  Thanks for the letters.  I haven´t read them yet. but I will right now.  I love you all a lot!  I´m always happy to hear good news.
love, mb

Hey family,
Cheryl, thank you for the pictures.  I really liked them.  Tanner and Nani look big.
Dad, sounds like you had a good trip to Utah.  That sounds like fun to go to New England.
Kyle, good luck with your interview.  I hope it goes well!
Doug, good luck with your interview in Green River.  I hope you move to Gillette!
Mom, Hna Silva would like a little hymnbook in English.  Thanks for the packages.  I haven´t received the other one, but I´m sure it will get here eventually.  I´ll probably break birthday tradition and open my presents in the morning.  I don´t think I´ve ever done that in my life.  Thanks.  Are you practicing your Spanish
Pablito, I didn´t know you were taking a Spanish class.  I wrote you a letter a long time ago and sent it last week. I wrote a little bit in SPanish.

This past week we had an FHEwith Enrique´s family.  We played a game.  Basically the point of every game is to make someone do something embarrassing in front of the group. Castigo preferido es bailar el pollito.  or in other words, dance like a chicken.  It seriously is the point of EVERY GAME.  So, that´s what we did.  I got punished twice so I had to dance and then I had to sing.  They liked my singing.  it was fun.  It´s so cool to see their family so happy!
We are working with members a lot more.  We got 4 references of families this week.  I was praying to be able to ask for references and put baptism dates better, and I´m improving. :)
We are trying to have more faith and courage in putting baptism dates.  We hadn´t put any in a long time.  Like two weeks.  And that´s a sin.  We put 3 on Friday.
We are trying a new tactic with Enrique:  wait for him to put his own date, hha.  He´ll get baptized soon.
He´s a nice guy.  I really like his family.  They are fun.
Happy father´s day, Dad.  I don´t remember when it is.  This week or next week.  But I hope it was or is a good day.
This Friday Elder Maynes is coming to visit us.  We are going to be with the north mission again like when Elder Nelson came, so it should be great.  I have some letters that I´m going to have passed on to some people in Nagarote and Masatepe.
My Spanglish is steadily improving.  While doing the weekly numbers I asked hna silva how many investigators we have progresanding. And I didn´t even catch what I had said until she started laughing.
    Rafael is still really happy.
Rosa Aura has a lot of faith that Marlon can change.  We are going to start the addiction recovery group this week.  Hopefully Friday.  The teacher is going to invite people with us Wednesday night.
Yesterday we went with a partly inactive family. The dad has problems with alcohol. I loI love teaching people that have WoW problems.  They are like little kids and they just want to be change.  They are probably my favorite people to teach.
I love you all. Good luck in everything you are doing
love, hna tew
   It´s really beautiful here
11 June 2012
Dear Mom,
How are you doing?  I liked reading your letter today and hearing about everything that you are doing.  I miss you a lot too and I miss working outside with you or walking around the yard.  I'm glad you're getting the cemetery to help you out a little bit.  Maybe you could find a gardening friend to help you a little.  I don't know if there is someone that doesn't have a yard or that likes to work outside.  but I'm glad that you are busy and that you like to be outside.  :)  When we helped Rafael plant I told them a little about our garden.  We planted tomatoes in plowed rows: it was fun to do that.  It was just a hand help plow - behind a horse.  I didn't do any plowing - just watched.  It's good for my sould to get outside and work with plants.  When I was planting Chiltoma whoops I mean peppers :) there were ome little plants and I thought about how I didn't have to defend them or their worth to you.  Ha ha!  It's faith - the little plants are still plants.  and they can grow too.  could you send me a picture of the miracle ash?  I would really like to see it.  I am really inspired by it.
Thanks for always writing me and sending me packages.  it makes my day to read a letter from you.  I know it takes time to write letters and organize packages - and it's kind of a constant thing, but I really appreciate it.  alot of missionaries don't get that much support from their families.  I'm really grateful for the opportunity to grow up in a gospel-centered family - intact - with a mom and dad and four brothers.  I feel pretty spoiled to have been blessed as much as I have been.  Thanks for being good - see Helaman 5. :)  Well, se acabo el P-day.  Practique su Espanol, mama.  Tiene que hablar cada dia para que cuando venga, pueda hablar con todos mis amigos.  Con mucho amor and carino, Hermana Tew

4 Junio 2012
Dear Family,
How´s it going?  Congrats to Doug and Kevin for everything you´ve accomplished in school!
Dad  we are doing a program like that with journals.  The branch pres. chooses five families to work with the missionaries and their goal is to baptize two families this year.  (each family)  They write down the contacts they make, the lessons they've participated in, whatever they want.  There is a space for the picture of the family that they helped to baptize.
Mom thanks for the email.  It sounds like you all are busy up there.  Wow, I think it is hotter in Gillette that it is here.  It just rained so the sky is dark and it´s kind of cool.
Doug, good luck with the interview tomorrow.  I hope you get the job.
Kyle, good luck with your phone interview.  I hope you get what you want!
Kevin, Sounds like life is busy
Dani, thanks for being a good writer.  Would you mind sending me some pictures of the munchkins?  I have the picture you sent through the mail on the wall in front of my desk.
Pablito, I sent you a letter this morning.  It has a stamp on it.  and I sent it to Kevin´s house because I don´t have your address.
Cheryl,  I would also like to see a picture of you all.  Maybe you have taken a family picture recently.  When I talk to five year-olds I think about Tanner and Nani, and I want to see how big they are.

So... highlights from the week, FRENCH TOAST!!!  We have a little electric stove with two burners that our dueña let us borrow.  and we also borrowed a pan.  There was a bottle of olive oil that the elders left in the house, so we used that.  yum!  With pineapple jam.
PLANTING WITH RAFAEL!  We went up to their house three times this week to help them plant peppers and tomatoes.  Rafael made the holes earlier.  Hna Silva and I put the pepper plants in the holes and they covered them up.  They had planted all the peppers really close together to get them to grow and then we pulled them up like weeds and put them in the holes.  I think they do it that way because there aren´t as many weeds or something?  I really enjoyed being outside and working.  It was good for my spirit.  My body didn´t like it very much.  We´ve been pretty tired this week.  But it was really fun, and Rafael and ]Magdalena were really grateful.  Her daughter and son in law were there and they´ve received missionaries before.  They are the most adorable family ever!  I want to teach them so badly but they don´t live in our area.  Josue, the son in law, nuero, como yo digo... is super nice.  He invited another family that was there helping us to go to church.  He also said the closing prayer in the lesson.  SWEET!  Daisy, the daughter is really funny.  And their two kids are adorable.  I´m hoping they move to our area.  :)
I wrote about this in the letter to president Monestel, but Enrique is AWESOME!! His family has changed so much.  Eduardo behaves way better.  Tami doesn´t laugh during the prayers.  They pray EVERY NIGHT as a family.  When he was coming home from work on the bus he was thinking about what he had read in the Book of Mormon at work.  He knows it´s true.  He says that he feels peace when he reads the Book of Mormon.  When he got fired he came home and felt bad, so he started reading his book of mormon and he started to feel better.  Wow.  Enrique is the person that we found in the field and by our house, drunk.  He´s the one that asked us to read him a verse from the book of Mormon and Hna Silva opened up both times to a chapter about baptism.  3 nephi 11 and 3 nephi 27.
It´s incredibly beautiful now because it´s raining and everything is turning green. The mountains are gorgeous.
Rafael bore his testimony in his house with us in front of Josue.  He also bore his testimony this Sunday.  Wow.  He´s awesome.
I´m praying for you all.  I know you are praying for me.  I miss you all a lot. I listen to the recordings you sent me at Christmas time. I listened to Dad´s story this morning.  I listen to you all.  I love it when Scotty says Nicaragua.  Thanks for being such a loving family and raising me in the gospel.  It´s a debt that I can´t repay.  Love love love,
love, MB
