Family!!!!
First of all, I am definitely gaining a stronger
testimony of prayer. I´ve said this a few times, but, at the beginning
of my mission, I starrted praying for a few things for each member of my
family. I actually felt prompted to pray for some specific things for
each of you. And I´m seeing the beginning of all these prayers being
answered when I receive your letters. Some things that I didn´t really
think could happen have happened, and I just feel really happy that
everyone is moving onward.

It sounds like the kitchen is looking good! It´s kind of
amazing how many things there are that we don´t really need. I like
hearing about your missionary breakfasts! good luck with studying Mark
and stuff! Keep working on your book!

liked what you said about Tanner, how he gets discouraged about the long words that he can´t read. That´s pretty funny, but I can relate to that feeling.

How is work and your new apartment?
I´ve
been a little sick. Not too bad, just diarrea and gas and stomach
ache. The weird thing is that I have to burp all the time. Is that
weird or is that weird?
Our baptism fell through last week. Dimas gave us the reference for
his compañera, and he wanted to change his life around. He started
avoiding us and now he doesn´t want to get married to Ivania. It´s a
pretty rough situation.
We put baptismal dates with 3 families in three days. They were definitely miracles.
Claudia
and Enrique are contacts that Hna Zapeta made yesterday. Claudia has
been to church many times and knows a lot about the church. They have 3
kids. Claudia is pregnant. The oldest one is 16 and wants to learn to
play piano. Hna Zapeta put a fecha with them.
Ivania and Luis are contacts from a couple weeks ago. Ivania´s
daughter, Gabriella was baptized a few years ago. She´s 15. Last night
we had a lesson with one of their neighbors and Ivania said if we had
time after the lesson could we come over and visit them? So we had our
first lesson with them last night and put a baptismal date. It´s always
good that they know why we are there.
I´ve started teaching piano. It´s fun. The class starts 30 minutes
before seminary. The first week no one came, but a few saw that I was
there and they came over and started learning a little. Last week our
recent convert Milton came and really liked it. Another joven, Esau
forgot to come early but showed up for seminary and learned a little
too. Hna Zapeta is learning too and she really likes it. She´s
learning quickly. I really like Hna Zapeta a lot. We get along well
and we help each other. We both want to be better. We speak in English
at night when we´re walking back to our dinner appointment and house.
I´m really hoping that we don´t have changes. Presidente Monestel said
that he´s going to keep missionaries in their areas for a longer time.
Something funny. There are usually a few drunks on this one corner and
yesterday they called out my name. Teeeewwwwww. Teeeeewwwww. I´m
getting to be pretty famous down here. haha
Pedro and Teresa are reading the book of Mormon and praying about it.
Abel and Marcela watched the Restauration with us and we gave them a
book of Mormon. They have a baptismal date too! They are a super cool
couple. They have a really cute 2 year old.
Last week after
writing you all we ran into a member in the street. He was on his
bicycle and stopped to thank us for visiting his family. he said thanks
for encouraging his wife to go to church (she went last week). It was
really nice to hear someone say thanks.
This morning we had an activity in Managua for all the hermanas in
the mission. It was really fun just to hang our with hermanas. I think
we are 28. Only 9 Nortes. I talked with Hna Rios. She´s really cool.
Hna Cottam and Hna Hartvigsen are other nortes and they are great.
We had two really sweet lessons with two recent converts. One of
them talked about how much he has changed. He was telling us how he was
before, and his 3 year old daughter chimed in that he used to smoke. He
talked about how the only thing he wishes he could do is erase his
tattoos. Hna Zapeta told him about the resurrection and how we´ll have
perfect bodies. He also talked about learning about the plan of
salvation in church and thinking about his son that died.
We had another lesson with Rodolfo and Nancy, recent converts.
Rodolfo talked about how he felt really guilty for not having gone to
church. They have problems with money and he has turned down
opportunities to work on Sundays. Last week he went to visit his sick
aunt, so he didn´t go to church.
President Monestel and his wife are so good.

Hey everyone!
I just want to say first of all that I really love love love getting your emails. Everyone´s personality comes through so clearly when you write. I feel a lot of love from you all.
Doug and Dani! Congratulations! Yay! Another boy! I love the name David. Hudson is a sweet middle name. But Tew is the best part. :) So, this baby was born Sunday morning! yay! He looks oddly familiar. I don´t know if it´s because he looks like scotty or adam or doug or dani, or just like a baby, but he looks familiar. Thanks for sending me pictures! I showed my family picture to a couple of people this week, and when I said I have 4 neices and nephews I kept thinking, or five!
Cheryl! I loved your email. It sounds like the family is doing really well. Good job losing weight. Try to feed Paul lots of butter. That´s what mom always tried to do. haha. I am really impressed by how patient you are in everything you do. It sounds like the munchkins are sponges and soaking up everything. wow. I miss you and Kevin and Nani and Tanner a lot.
Kyle, have fun on your trip. Are you and Carrie still dating? Say hi to her for me and tell her to write me again or else I´ll call her an intruder when I get back.

Mom, uh... the scripture. I will try to think of one before I go. I don´t have my scriptures with me so it´s a little hard. Sounds like English class is a success if it gets investigators to the church. I really like being a missionary, but sometimes I just think of how great it will be to just be a member. haha I keep on thinking on how I can help the missionaries when I get back to Gillette and how I can share the gospel at BYU.
Maybe Faith hope charity and love with an eye single to the glory of god qualify him for the work. That´s fine. I really like that verse.
I entered the MTC 7 months ago! what?!
We are going to have a wedding this week! Dimas and Ivania are getting hitched this wednesday. Yeah! Dimas really has the desire to change his life, and Ivania understands everything that we´ve taught her. She wants to begin a new life. She is only 17 years old.
We only had one investigator in church this sunday, Ivania. We are working hard, but maybe we´re just not doing something right. We need to work more with members and with references. We received a reference last week that looks pretty positive. We put a baptismal date in the first lesson. She accepted the date but said that she would really like her husband to be involved too. We were like, well.... yeah... we would like to teach your husband too. haha. She has a friend who is a really pilas member of the church. We have an appointment with them Wednesday night.
Time passes so quickly. I already have almost 4 weeks with Hna Zapeta. She´s my favorite companion so far. She is just really chill.
Bah! I have to go! Pray for my investigators to just GO TO CHURCH!!!! and pray for me to have more faith and patience. I pray for you all and I know that you are praying for me. Thanks, really, thanks for your prayers. Thanks for teaching the munchkins to pray for me. That makes me smile and makes me happy. I sent a letter last week.

There have been so many birthdays in the family. I was going through the ages of the grandkids in my head. This morning I realized Tanner is going to be six when I get back. Bah! That one freaked me out.
Kevin Thanks for the letter. It sounds like the kids are growing up. Tanner is reading from the Book of Mormon!?! What! ¡Felicidades!
Dani: Good luck with the baby! It would be cool to see pictures next week if there is a baby, but I know everything will be pretty crazy. I hope everything goes well!
Dad: Thanks. All of my letters to the president are archived in the page from which I send them. It will be interesting to look at all of them and see the mission and my Spanish at a glance.
Sarah Cotton: Have fun in the MTC! Wow. Thanks for telling me about that. I hope she does great.

Dad, you requested that I mention my investigators by name and tell you how they´re doing. Well, we only have one family that is progressing right now. It´s Dimas and Ivania. They came to church!!!!! yes! Isabel, a muchacha from the branch picked them up and took them to church. We passed by their house at 8:00 yesterday morning and Ivania was all ready to go! Church doesn´t start until 9. They are going to get married on the 22nd, so I´ll let you know how the wedding goes! Woo hoo! They are going to the church activities too. Everybody in church was shaking hands and hugging Dimas yesterday. He hasn´t been active in the church for a long time, and everyone was really suportive and glad to see him. It was really a challenge for him to return to church. But he went!
We are teaching 11 other families. But we really haven´t taught very much to any of them. Abel and Marcela came to the noche de hermanamiento and really liked how everyone participated and how we talked about studying the scriptures. They attend a lot of different churches and we explained that we´re going to teach them how Christ organized his church and how we can recognize his church today. He liked that. So.. tonight we´re going to teach that!
Aracely and William are Catholics but they don´t go right now. Aracely uses a wheelchair and says that the church has abandoned her. William works every other day and couldn´t go yesterday to church, but Aracely wants to go next week with him.
This is funny. We are teaching 2 families that we found with Hna Castro. Miguel and Rosario and their daughter Teresa and her husband, Pedro. Teresa has gone to church a lot but a long time ago. Pedro and Teresa are going to accompany us to the church too next week because Pedro has the day off. They both like the missionaries and they are truly grateful that we visit them. It´s nice to go somewhere where the people like you. Rosario goes to some weird church and doesn´t show any desire to understand or learn. But we were teaching about baptism and the Holy Ghost with her and Miguel and she just closed her heart and her mind to everything we said. But we asked Miguel what he thought and he said something like, well, I guess my baptism wasn´t complete. I´m missing something. I´m not sure if I´m ready to get baptized yet, but my baptism that I received isn´t complete. YES!!!! he has a humble heart. He is an eskimero, which means he sells ice cream, Eskimo is a brand, and he has to sell sundays. He´s afraid of his boss. Anyway, the funny thing is that we found a lady named Maribel and we started teaching her and she was super receptive. She said things like, oh yeah we need prophets for sure. and Joseph Smith was just an instrument in God´s hands. Hna Zapeta and I were like si. Amen. Asi es Hermana. But she told us that her schedule is crazy and they were going out of town to sell their chairs they make (everyone in Masatepe makes chairs that are super sweet). So, we passed by another day and they were all working. We asked if we could share something with them and she said yes. We asked the husband to join us and he said claro. So we basically shared the same thing over again. And he (Miguel) was super receptive too. He understood. also, Maribel remembered what the priesthood was. Everyone gets confused about sacerdocio (priesthood) and sacerdote (priest). I was so impressed. The difference is that they WANTED to learn. Partway through, Rosario showed up and i was like, what! It turns out the Miguel is her son too. So we´re teaching 3 families in the same family. They are cool. Miguel and Maribel visit different churches too. So, hopefully they will be able to go to church this Sunday. I´m really hoping that these awesome families will make it to church.
We are trying to teach according to needs a lot more now. We ask questions like how long have you been married? What´s your secret? Como podían lograr cinco años juntos? Tiene una manual sobre como ser un buen padre? Sabe como hacerlo? It´s a lot more fun to get to know people, joke around a little, explain where we´re from, what are families are like (Thanks for the photo book Cheryl! I use it all the time and it keeps my photos safe!) and that our purpose is to help families be happy here in Masatepe and happy alla in heaven. I love meeting new families that are open. They are usual young, starting out. Yesterday my companion and I both felt impressed to contact a couple. Ana Argentina and Jose Luis. We asked lots of questions and then he said, well, I think it´s fair that I have the chance to ask some too. So he basically asked us what compelled us to be missionaries, why don´t we stay in our house and sleep instead of walk the calles and talk to people, and don´t we miss our families? It was cool to basically bear our testimony about why we are here. She said she would go to church with us. He´s not sure because of his work. We need to put a lot more baptismal dates.
WE haven´t been able to find Lenin again yet, but we´re going to find him soon! We dropped Manuel and Ena because they aren´t completing their commitments and Ena says she doesn´t have time.
Another family, Evelin and Jose are pretty funny. He doesn´t want to listen to us, and as we approached the house he took off running. Literally running. haha. Afterwards he gave some hilarious excuses and I told him not to lie. haha It was so funny. His wife is interested and believes that prophets are necessary. But at the end, they tried to make some comparison with the Pope and then they got confused. But she really wants to know. Okay,
I feel like we experience a lot more things now. I recognize and work with the Spirit more now too. But there´s still a ways to go with that skill. We´re teaching more people, we talk to more people. I miss you all a lot! But the time goes by so fast. It´s crazy.

Dani: I liked hearing about how Adam walks on his hands and feet. I can open attachments. That is a really good drawing for someone his age. I also really enjoyed your mission plan. I am a huge fan of the name David. For a girl Alice...Elizabeth. Or another three syllable name.
Doug: Do you want some work experience in Nicaragua? There is a Health Center in every town and everything is completely free. It´s like magic! and Socialism, too! Favorite line from Doug: we´re going to have another kid in the next 17 days.
Kevin and Cheryl and Tanner: Um... I remembered all of your birthdays but I forgot to write anything about them. Happy birthday to all! Kevin, are you still going to Germany.
Kyle!: Nice to hear from you. Are you hoping to go to BYU or are you going to decide if you really want it or not after you hear back? I´m pretty sure you´ll get it.
Mom! I loved the drudge report you sent. Whoa! Sorry I forgot to respond to your question about politics down here. Pres. Ortega won the election even though it was against the law for him to run again. All the light posts are painted red and black for the FSLN party. People talk about politics a little but hardly at all. I play the piano every week in Sacrament meeting now because Elder Woodruff got transferred. Just me! I did get the extra memory card. Thank you! The zone hasn´t received the pouch for a while, so I haven´t gotten your letters yet, but thanks for writing them!
Dad! Tell the missionaries and the whole stake hi! I´m glad to hear that missionary work is going well and that your email audience is increasing. Thanks for your sense of humor. It´s fun to read your letters. I have absolutely no idea what is going on in the world. If there is a natural disaster anywhere besides Nicaragua, let me know. The closest I get to hearing about American politics is when I see someone walking around with a hat that says Obama on it.
I´m feeling more and more like a real missionary. We work a lot harder than I`ve ever worked before. We have a goal to contact 50 families every week, be teaching 15 families, and have 7 progressing. You can read a little bit about that in the letter to President Monestel. It´s starting to get going a little more. There are always people ready to hear the gospel, we just have to find them. Real missionaries have to work, have to have faith, and have to repent.
I love Hna Zapeta. We both have a desire to be better than we are. We´ve been practicing English a little and that has been fun. She knows a lot and she´s learned here on her mission. My Spanish is getting a lot better too. I am trying to have more confidence. Hna Zapeta told me that when people don´t understand me it´s because I don´t speak loud enough.
We´re focusing more on the Spirit. We`re asking more inspired questions.
Last week we put a baptismal date with Ivania! So that´s a family with a fecha. Yay! We still have a long way to go with them, but they can get baptized. :)
We´re teaching a family right now that hasn´t been keeping their commitments. theey are Manuel and Ena. But their daughter, Rosmary read from the BoM. She told us that she read and we asked her what she learned. She summed up the whole introduction. She was clear the the BoM was written by various prophets her in the Americas. I was so impressed.d Lots of people lie to us and they think it´s better to be nice than truthful. She hadn´t prayed about it, and we explained why it was important to pray. We have an appt for this Wed, and I think it will be really special. Rosmary ssaid the closing prayer and it was beautiful, really sincere. We wrote how to pray in the back of the BoM and she looked at it before praying. Awesome! We´re hoping that her example will help her parents complete their commitments.
Saturday we ate two lunches to avoid offending the mom of a recent convert. She served us chicharron which is fried pig skin. It´s in the states too, but the stuff she gave us had black hairs all over it from the pig. It´s actually a mission rule that we can´t eat pig because it´s so nasty here. One of the little girls there turns 8 this week and doesn´t want to be baptized. so, we asked if she knew what baptism was. Nope. So we explained it with pictures from the Gospel Art kit (Hna DeHoyos left me hers) After we went to visit Ivania and we read the Bom with her. We talked about baptism and asked her if she had any questions. Si. Solo... What is baptism? Good question.... so we did the same thing. It was cool that we had the opportunity to practice. There are miracles everyday if we just look for them and are willing to recognize the Lord´s hand and help in All things.
Sunday and Saturday we had 10 or more citas with families. We found 2 new families Saturday. We taught Gloria and Wilfredo. they are a young couple and they received everything p`retty well. We taught the 1st principle and Dia de Reposso. It was cool. Yesterday we had 8 citas fall through and when the last when fell through we decided to contact the next door neighbor. She has a baptismal date now...
We had a super awesome lesson with a new investigator last night. He´s super cool and he understood everything. he gave examples and he was really open. He told us, I´m a little worried about my family. I really want to have peace in my family. We taught him and we´re going to go with his wife and him later this week. It was a good lesson because we had questions to help him think, understand, and apply what we were teaching. The spirit really helped him, and he was wanting to learn. How cool! His name is Lenin.
I´m telling you all the good things that have happened, but there are others things that aren´t so positive. I still need a lot of help and a lot more faith. But... We can have success if we work hard, use preach my gospel, and have faith.

Wow. Muchas muchas cosas han pasado esta semana. Contactamos un monton. Hemos tenido algunas nuevas familias, pero vamos a tener mas. Tuvimos la meta de contactar 50 familias y contactamos 47. Estamos enseñando algunas pero todavia ninguna esta progresando. La familia mas positiva es Ivania y Dimos. El es miembro. Doug: Do you want some work experience in Nicaragua? There is a Health Center in every town and everything is completely free. It´s like magic! and Socialism, too! Favorite line from Doug: we´re going to have another kid in the next 17 days.
Kevin and Cheryl and Tanner: Um... I remembered all of your birthdays but I forgot to write anything about them. Happy birthday to all! Kevin, are you still going to Germany.
Kyle!: Nice to hear from you. Are you hoping to go to BYU or are you going to decide if you really want it or not after you hear back? I´m pretty sure you´ll get it.
Mom! I loved the drudge report you sent. Whoa! Sorry I forgot to respond to your question about politics down here. Pres. Ortega won the election even though it was against the law for him to run again. All the light posts are painted red and black for the FSLN party. People talk about politics a little but hardly at all. I play the piano every week in Sacrament meeting now because Elder Woodruff got transferred. Just me! I did get the extra memory card. Thank you! The zone hasn´t received the pouch for a while, so I haven´t gotten your letters yet, but thanks for writing them!
Dad! Tell the missionaries and the whole stake hi! I´m glad to hear that missionary work is going well and that your email audience is increasing. Thanks for your sense of humor. It´s fun to read your letters. I have absolutely no idea what is going on in the world. If there is a natural disaster anywhere besides Nicaragua, let me know. The closest I get to hearing about American politics is when I see someone walking around with a hat that says Obama on it.
I´m feeling more and more like a real missionary. We work a lot harder than I`ve ever worked before. We have a goal to contact 50 families every week, be teaching 15 families, and have 7 progressing. You can read a little bit about that in the letter to President Monestel. It´s starting to get going a little more. There are always people ready to hear the gospel, we just have to find them. Real missionaries have to work, have to have faith, and have to repent.
I love Hna Zapeta. We both have a desire to be better than we are. We´ve been practicing English a little and that has been fun. She knows a lot and she´s learned here on her mission. My Spanish is getting a lot better too. I am trying to have more confidence. Hna Zapeta told me that when people don´t understand me it´s because I don´t speak loud enough.
We´re focusing more on the Spirit. We`re asking more inspired questions.
Last week we put a baptismal date with Ivania! So that´s a family with a fecha. Yay! We still have a long way to go with them, but they can get baptized. :)
We´re teaching a family right now that hasn´t been keeping their commitments. theey are Manuel and Ena. But their daughter, Rosmary read from the BoM. She told us that she read and we asked her what she learned. She summed up the whole introduction. She was clear the the BoM was written by various prophets her in the Americas. I was so impressed.d Lots of people lie to us and they think it´s better to be nice than truthful. She hadn´t prayed about it, and we explained why it was important to pray. We have an appt for this Wed, and I think it will be really special. Rosmary ssaid the closing prayer and it was beautiful, really sincere. We wrote how to pray in the back of the BoM and she looked at it before praying. Awesome! We´re hoping that her example will help her parents complete their commitments.
Saturday we ate two lunches to avoid offending the mom of a recent convert. She served us chicharron which is fried pig skin. It´s in the states too, but the stuff she gave us had black hairs all over it from the pig. It´s actually a mission rule that we can´t eat pig because it´s so nasty here. Hna Sobeyda! Gracias por su mensaje! ¿Como está? Estoy bien. Todavia estoy en Masatepe. Que bueno que su mamá esté en Guatemala! Felicitaciones! Yo espero que la rama esté creciendo y que todas estén felices. Saludes a todos ahi! - Hna Tew
I´m quedaring in Masatepe still. I love this place. My goal is to have a lot more faith and follow the Spirit more. I have a lot of desire to be a good missionary, but it´s hard for me to see any fruits. I already have six months on the mission and there are lots of things that I lack. My new companion is Hna Zapeta. She´s from Guatemala. She´s really easy to get along with. I could tell the first day that she was kind of afraid of me, which is funny. She has 11 months on the mission. She told me it´s always hard for her to adapt to changes, and I was like, I understand that. I really like her. Hna DeHoyos was so bold and crazy it´s quite a change. Now, I´m kind of the bold one. Weird. But we learn something and teach something to every companion if we allow ourselves to. It´s funny. Companions are a definite blessing. Definitely. But, they also bring their complications. I´m grateful to have had my companions.
We are trying to work more with families where the husband is member but the wife isn´t or vice versa. Last week we contacted a reference. An ex-missionary and his wife, who is not a member. They aren't actually married. They told us they were going to church this Sunday, but Sunday morning they told us no. Anyway, you can read a little bit about that in the letter to President Monestel. But I can say that I am honestly trying to find out what I need to do to be better and teach better and contact better. This Sunday Hna DeHoyos visited the branch with her parents and I still needed to write in her baggy...sort of like a yearbook for the mission. I sat behind the piano and was just going to write during the meeting yeah I know that´s bad, but I felt like I needed to sit in the congregation and listen. One of the talks was definitely meant for my ears. Anielka talked about how we can repent and persevere and do things that are difficult. She said conversion takes time, stop doing the things that don´t help us progress, Many times the fruits of our labors are invisible. , Everyone can change, we are´t alone, everything is possible because of Christ. We can please the Lord - it isn´t easy - but we can do it. God has a purpose and we can fulfill it. We work with Him to complete it.
This morning we went with the Elders and Hna Campos to the laguna in Pochote. It´s in our area. It´s a beautiful lake. It´s a little hike, pretty steep, but beautiful. Pictures 6,7,8,9, and 10 are from this morning. In nine is Hna Zapeta. She played soccer before the mission and was really good. Picture one is from a birthday party. This family Perez Aleman is menos activo. Chepe, Ronaldo, Juana, Juana, Eddy, Rafael. Picture two is the Hermana DeHoyos when she was sick, before she went to the hospital. Yes. She is crazy. Picture 3 is me at choir practice with Hna Perez from the North mission. We knew each other in the CCM. picture 4 Hna DeHoyos got puzzles for Christmas. One P-day we went to Diriamba to eat pizza and we put the puzzle together while we were waiting. Pict 5 kind of wraps up the relationship between Hna Dehoyos and me. hahaha. She was great. But crazy.
I have a friendly suggestion. Maybe you all could write me after you get my emails. That way you can respond to what I write.
Dad the stake sounds great! I like your thoughts on how real growth is measured. Mom thanks for the letter and the updates on life, the house, Gillette, and all. How are you doing? Write me a letter in Spanish sometime.

Hey Family,
Dad: I like the goals you have for the stake. They sound really excellent. I especially like the idea of sending the three missionary emails. Also it sounds like you´re working a lot on keeping the house nice. you AND mom. cool.
Mom!!! Tell me what`s going on in the primaries! I`m dying to know. I am seriously tempted to check out drudge report. Tell Sarah Cotton good luck on her mission! I´m excited for her. She´ll be a great missionary. Tell Gaudy hi too. And Lola and the Carrolls and the Spanish missionaries that I guess I don´t even know now... I´m glad you´re helping Gaudy out.
Dani: I`m glad everyone is still cute! Is there a family bet on if you´re having a girl critter or boy critter?
Well, we were going to find out changes today, but Elder Woodruff just told us that we`re not going to know until tomorrow at five. I`ve had a feeling like I´m going to get changed. My companion is dying (today was her last p-day) and I think they might whitewash the area. I don`t know..... I just want to know the truth. It`s been kind of a crazy month.
I think we´re seeing the last of the stressed Hermana Tew. I´ve just been really worried about what my companions think and what they´re going to do to me. I finally realized Saturday that I should just trust myself and not worry about what they think. Yesterday my companion was chewing me out for something retarded and I just didn´t even care. It felt good not to care. I mean all of that in the best way possible.
Well, Elder Nelson was awesome . I got to sing in the choir and also play the piano for the meeting. What a privilege! The choir sounded good. Elder Nelson shook my hand twice! I played prelude music while everyone else was shaking his hand. Another missionary came up and played for me so I could get in line to shake his hand. Then I went back to playing and he came over and shook my hand again. haha. I told him he had stayed at my house a few months ago. All the messages were really awesome. I loved what he said to us and also what his wife said. Elder Falabella and his wife were there too. They`re really neat people. Poderosos!
He talked about family history and patriarchal blessings. He asked us to stand up according to our tribe and had us stand up according to where we were from. Later he talked about helping people know where they are from and who their grandparents and great-grandparents are from. Then he said that really, all of us are from Egypt, pretty much. haha. true!
His wife told us that if we could watch 10 minutes from our premortal DVD we wouldn´t have any worries about ourselves or our capabilities. Wow! Something I really liked about what she said was that when we are obedient, we see who we really are. We see our true selves and we know who we are.
President Monestel talked about how when Joseph Smith was 14 the question he asked was with which church he should join himself. He didn´t just want to know the truth, he wanted to know what to DO. He related that to faith - that we should ask for faith and plan to do things with the faith that we have and will have. It made a lot more sense when he talked. He only took like 4 minutes. He´s a humble guy.
We´re teaching a cool family Manuel and Ena. They have both read from the Book of Mormon and he has some questions for us. We haven´t met with him again. But we have an appointment for this Wednesday. I hope everything goes well! I hope I am here to see them go to church...and be baptized!
We are teaching 6 families right now. Three are part-member. Four of them have Books of Mormon. I kind of want to start my mission over again this change. I learned a lot from my companion and I know that I´m going to miss her. Anyway, I know I´m going to the change meeting because my companion is dyinnnnnngggggg.

Hey! I don´t even know what to write. It´s been another week in Masatepe. We saw some success yesterday. Two of our recent converts received the Aaronic priesthood. They were both really excited about it. I felt really happy for them. They are legit and they are progressing. Their wives were baptized at the same time as they were. We`ve been teaching the son of one of them. His name, and his dad´s name, is David. So, David is going to baptize his son. When he told me that I let out a whoop! That`s cool. We´ve been trying to focus ourselves more in families this past week and finding new families to teach. I hope that we´ll see some progress soon. We taught a really cool lesson last week to a family. We contacted them Sunday morning and they told us that they had had contact with the church before. They told us they had gone to the church for a year, a long time ago. When we got to their house we found out that they had actually just received the missionaries at their house for a while 18 years ago. The husband was eager to give us their names and address, but the wife was not quite as excited. They go to a church now. The lesson was cool. I bore my testimony about the Book of Mormon and we gave them a copy to read. We´re going to go teach them this Wednesday. Their names are Manuel and Ena. The mission is all focused on families, but I haven´t done very well at focusing on families. I am trying to change that. Everything in Preach My Gospel is true. No one should doubt anything written in that book. It says to focus on teaching families because they can strengthen each other and the church. It also says to focus on the Book of Mormon. This has been a huge push by President Monestel. People get testimonies by reading the Book of Mormon. Families make the church grow. This past week our Gospel Principles class had about 19 converts in it. There were 5 families in there. Wow. Our strong converts are families.
Jamilet is still a shining star. The church has made a difference in her life. I keep on hoping and praying that her husband, Wilmer, can join the church too. He`s a cool guy and he has read from the Book of Mormon. They have prayed as a family. I hope I can see something good happen with him. :)
Hna DeHoyos is still crazy. I´m still a little scared of her but not as much. Her parents are coming to pick her up so they will be at David´s baptism. She´s really fun.
We went to Managua again this morning for choir practice. It was good. It eats up the day. It´s fun to practice. There is a choir director and a pianist and a violinist. The choir is small. There are four of each part. I´m alto. Of course. I also sing a little 2nd soprano. It sounds really good. The violinist is very talented. Actually, everyone is. haha. We ate pizza! Real pizza! We´ve had it every Monday for the past three Mondays. I´m excited to hear from Elder Nelson in TWO DAYS.
It really is cool to be a missionary. It´s not all glory. There really isn´t any at all. I just hope that I can learn how to trust God and be happy to do whatever he asks. I hope I can make the best out of any situation and leave every person and place better than I found it. I hope I can help families be baptized and stay in the church forever. It´s still really hard to have faith.
Sounds like the household projects are going well. I loved my Christmas packages! Thanks a lot. The CTR rings are fun. I looooooved the recordings of everyone. My favorite was probably hearing Nani sing, "My life is a Gift". I loved to hear from all of you. It was fun to hear Scotty say, "Nicaragua." It was fun to hear Kevin talk in his low morning voice and get prompted by mom on what she wanted him to say. Dad, I couldn´t listen to the Mary and Laura story yet. I started feeling too trunky. I will listen to it soon though. I loved what you talked about. Thanks mom for being awesome. I loved the music and the conference stuff you put on and the hot chocolate (my district liked it) and the peanut butter.
I love you all a lot! Maybe you could write me tonight or tomorrow. That would be great! ;)
Okay. Please pray for me. I know your prayers make differences. I love you all. Every single one. I´m betting on a hmmm..... girl for Doug and Dani. Let me know! The due date is Feb 16? 19?
