Dear Family,
First order of business. Happy birthday Kyle! I hope you enjoyed the Thai food! Sounds like fun.
Good luck Doug in all your tests!
Be healthy Paul!
Cherylty never faileth!
Good luck with school Kevin!
Be a great mom, Dani!
Be a great teacher, Mom! I know you
are doing a lot to help the Spanish branch and also to just help
people! Yay! you are an inspiration!
Good luck in the stake, at
work, with retirement, with your book, with the family, Dad! It really
sounds like the stake is doing good! It`s in good hands.
Eddy got baptized! Por fin! But he has changed a lot. He`s 29
years old and missionaries have been teaching him on and off for three
years. He loves his family a lot. He really cares about what happens
with them, and some family trials have softened his heart. I have never
seen him so happy like these past few days. He got baptized on
Saturday and we visited him yesterday. He was joking and talking about
how long it`s taken him to get where he is. For the first time, he
stayed in all the classes, and he was encouraging the rest of his family
to stay for the rest of the classes too. He climbed a tree to get us
some fruit. It`s a weird fruit. It`s white and creamy inside. Anyway,
he was really high up there and we were telling him not to die. Even
though he doesn`t have sins right now, doesn`t mean that it`s a good
time to die. It`s amazing how the gospel can change a person. He is
really different now. I mean, really different.
The family that is progressing the most right now is Claudia,
Enrique, Jose Enrique (se llama Junior), Rodrigo, and Saeed. They are
praying as a family, but Enrique is kind of timid and his kids are
really smart and they like to talk. So, I think a lot of the time he
doesn`t want to talk because he`s afraid of saying something wrong and
then having his kids correct him. They can be just a little harsh.
Anyway, he says over and over that he isn`t ready to get baptized.
We`ve read the book of Mormon with them one time. Alma 32. We had a
really awesome lesson about the Atonement with them, but Enrique wasn`t
there. We talked about what is the atonement and how Christ already
paid for everything that we have done and now we have to accept the
sacrifice through our repentance and baptism. All the kids got it super
well. They are super smart. Jose Enrique is 16, Rodrigo 12, and Saeed
8. I think we are going to have basically the same lesson with
Enrique. Maybe just with him. He`s a little timid. We celebrated
Rodrigo`s birthday this Wednesday! He`s a very sincere kid. Since
there isn`t light at Enrique and Claudia`s house, we celebrated in
Presidente Mercado`s house. It was a good experience because I could
see how comfortable Enrique was with everything. He felt good in the
branch president`s house. This is a good sign! I felt really happy
Wednesday night.
Friday night we visited a member family. Their oldest son
accompanies us a lot. His name is William. He`s awesome! He always
teaches really well and tells our investigators to listen to us and do
the things that we teach because we`re called by God. Whoa! We got to
know his family a little bit more and gain more of their confidence.
On Sunday their other returned missionary son, Wiston, had a lot more
confidence with us. It`s good to see the changes that happen when we
take time to show that we love people. Wiston and William were
companions on their missions! Weird! Only for one transfer. Anyway,
this Sunday Wiston was a lot more friendly towards us and I asked him to
cuidar (take care of, but cuidar is a better word) Enrique in the
Priesthood class. And he was just like, yeah, I`ll look out for him
hermana. No se preocupe.
I love the members here! Joao, our mission leader had everything
ready for the baptism. He is really good too. We celebrated Hna
Josefa`s birthday Sunday night and sang some hymns with Hno Eduardo and
his guitar. We all said something nice about Hna Josefa. She`s a
really sweet and powerful lady. Super strong in the gospel. haha. Hna
Zapeta said the hymn singing was a little evangelical. And it was.
haha but it was good!
Mom, my clothes are doing very well. I think I might have lost a
little bit of weight. Or my clothes are stretching out a bit. I
haven`t changed very much.
Tonight we have two FHES. One with a
less active family (Yader and Angelica) and another with Claudia and
Enrique. Pray for us! Pray that we`ll have the opportunity to talk to
Enrique alone!
I love you all a lot. Thanks for your letters and the news and your love and your prayers and for being my family!
Love, love, love

Hey Family!
How`s it going? I`m still here in Masatepe! with Hna Zapeta!
Hey Familia Tew,
Mom: Congrats on finishing the LDM! yeah! That`s a major accomplishment.
Dad: Thanks for the email and the missionary moment. It sounds like Stake Conference went well. I liked the small plate of cookies experience. Cool
Kevin: It sounds like you`re still doing what you do best, serving others. Good luck to Cheryl in her new calling. I hope you enjoy the opportunity.
Los demas: I hope you`re enjoying life and being good and feeling loved.
So.... I`m still in Masatepe! I seriously love this place. There are about 30 young single adults here and a ton of them are returned missionaries. when They saw that I was still here they asked me if I was going to buy a house here. haha Yeah! Today we went on a hike with the whole zone and with president Mercado, his daughter Grethel, and four other young single adults from the branch here in Masatepe. It was really fun. There was a slot canyon, a porcupine skeleton, oranges, mandarinas, and mangos. yum! Someone just has to climb a tree and 25 people have fruit! It was really beautiful. Everything is dry right now, so hiking was a little interesting... But is was super fun
Abel and Marcela are still trying to figure their lives out. They have opened up a lot and have made a few changes. They have to be humble enough to say sorry and move on. They are a cute family.
Claudia and Enrique and their three kids are magical. Seriously. They know a ton about the bible, and they learn everything we teach super easily. It`s ridiculous. Junior came to Piano classes this week and really liked it. He made friends with Esau and went to Seminary, which is right after the class! He also went Friday to seminary! The teacher is super pilas, and there are some great jovenes her. The people really want the branch to grow. We had a lesson this Saturday with the kids and Claudia. Yesterday we all went to the church. IT was such a beautiful sight to see a dad, a mom, and three kids all there in a row. Tonight we`re going to have a noche de hogar with Presidente Luis and Hna Xiomara at their house. They are a super sweet family. They live in a community where there is no light. Last night Enrique drove his moto behind us as we were leaving so we could see. The entrance is long and we can`t go there without a priesthood holder accompanying us. I`m really happy for this family. Claudia is a member.
This week we saw some miracles as a result of following the Spirit. We felt like contacting a house and the wife listened to us as we explained our purpose. Then she started talking about her mom who died about a year ago, and how she`s not sure if she will ever see her mom again. Hna Zapeta asked if we could get to know the rest of the people that lived in the terreno and she said yeah. So we went to meet this lady`s sister. She was cooking. We looked inside the house and met her husband who was holding their grown up daughter. Their daughter was having an attack of some sort. They asked us to pray, so we prayed and then we called the elders to give her a blessing. They came and gave her a blessing. We saw her yesterday and she was fine. We were in the street and she asked us if we were foing to pass by later that day. We said sure. So we stopped by later and shared a short message with her and her dad and her grandpa, who is 93. It turns out that the missionaries had visited them before and they have gone to church before. She and her dad accepted a baptismal date. I think they`re going to get baptized soon. I hope so, anyway.
Yesterday we were in a moto going to Pio XII to share a message with a member family. I was just thinking as we were riding that I don`t think I have ever been as happy as I am now in all my life. I feel blessed, like really blessed, to be able to be a missionary at this time in Nicaragua. WE are trying to work a lot more with members now. President Monestel told us it`s easier to contact, but it`s more effective to work with members. It`s true. I think we are going to have a lot more results.
I tried to think a lot more positively this week and work with a spirit of love a lot more. Hna Zapeta and I have a lot of the same goals and we are trying to help each other think more positively. WE`re doing good. :)
WE also want to have a change in desires. To just want to do whatever the Lord asks. It`s more and more clear that faith, hope, charity, and love, with an eye single to the glory of God are the most important attributes we need. These are the things that make us real missionaries.
Last week a 3 or four year old that was sitting in a parked moto yelled out ¨Hermana Tew!¨as we passed by. I have no idea who he is. It was fairly hilarious. The borachos on the corner and at least one 3 year old know who I am. haha
Well, our new district is Elder Blandin, Elder Muñoz, Elder Paz, Elder Child, Hna Zapeta, and Hna Tew. Elder Child and Elder Paz are reopening the old area of the hnas. Elder Child is from WYOMING!!! He`s really cool. Today on our hike we brought rope and he was practicing his lassoing skills. He caught one elder. Everyone was joking about what he could catch here in Nicaragua. Suggestions: a monkey, a chicken or a pig. We did run into a pig and he did try to rope it. We also ran into a cow. Also, we have a new record, I think. 11 full grown people in one moto.
This change has started off really well and I know it`s just going to get better. We had one family, three preisthood aged men, and seven investigators in church yesterday. We didn`t have really great numbers this week, but we had a lot more success (read, investigators in church). I think it`s because we are working with more love and a lot more faith. We both talked about how we want to have more faith this change. and it`s true. If we have faith, God will bless us.
In a package... voy a avisarle. esperese... But I`ll be thinking about it. I love you all a lot. I forgot to put that before. Love, love, love Hna Tew

Dear Family,
First of all, I loved the package you sent me. I like the pens and pencil sharpeners. This morning Ilistened to the Mary and Laura story and a few other recordings. I re-read emails too. I'm a little homesick I guess.
It's fun to get emails from you and hear whay you've been up to. I like hearing how the stake is doing, what missionaries are going where, how the Spanish group is getting along, and how the English classes are growing. I think it's great that you're teaching English, Mom. It sounds like a great way to reach out to the Spanish population and get them to feel comfortable in the church. Have you given them a tour of the church? that would be a fun vocabulary practice and you could show them the baptimal font and how there are classes for kids and adults, women and men.
so it's been neat to get to know our investigators better. When they open up and talk about feeling sad or guilty we can point them to Jesus Christ and help them know wat they need to do. People's lives can be so sad without the gospel. Their families are completely messed up and it is really hard for them,. They want peace and happiness, but it almost seems out of reach. Bueno, realmente queria decirles gracias. I'm really, really, grateful for you two, my parents. I'm glad that I came to our family. thanks for being fgood and thanks for living and teaching me the gospel of Jesus Christ. One of the first things we teach is that the gospel blesses families. It's not very hard to teach because it's obvious to me. You taught me to have faith, repent, be baptized, receive the Holy Ghost, and keep on repenting and having faith for my whole life long. you taught us to love each other, help each other, and support each other. you taught me to be good and to think more about other people.
Thanks for always loving me. It's so wonderful to think that there are people who want me to be happy and faithful. Thanks for being proud of me and telling me! Thanks for all the time you spent with me. thanks for all the stories you read to me, all the games you played, all the fhes you put together. I'm really glad that I have you two, and Kevin, Kyle, Doug, and Paul. So...yeah. Thanks :)
today we find out about transfers. I don't know what's going to happen. I really do love the people here in Masatepe. I love the members, our investigators, our converts, the less actives. Ireally love them. I don't feel like I've done everything I could have done here, but I feel like I've learned a ton. And there are people here that I love and people that love me. Who knows how long I'm going tobe here! But the time is passing too quickly. I hope that I can do everything thatI'm supposed to do here and I become the person I'm supposed to be. In the MTC they told us that a mission is really for ourselvesIt' our opportunity to be molded by the Lord and become who he wants us to be. But, I still want to have some success with my calling. Iwant to find, teach baptize and retain people and FAMILIES! And it's kind of discouraging not to be able to do it. We haven't baptized at all this transfer, and we're in Nicaragua. But we hae re-activatied some members, and we have done some good here.
A lady that live in Pochote that we visited thus week came to church this sunday. she bore her testimony and thanked us for going all the way out there to visit her. We are trying to be good missionaries. I think the hardest thing to do, and the most important thing to do, is ubmit your will and really just be willing to do whatever God wants. I don't know why that' so hard, but it is. Anyway. Elder Nelson told us that right now we are preparing ourselve for the real mission: our lives. So, Nicarauga is basically another MTC.
But it really is exciting to see people change. their happiness and hope level goep up. they get happier. they get brighter. they get smartedr too. i wish I could just make everyone understand how happy they could be. How much peace they could have. It they just got it. that's probably a Satan-ish wish.
Well, I'm about to email you all. Thanks again for the packages, su amor y su carino. :)

Dear Family,
Thanks for all the letters and pictures. I really enjoyed reading and looking at all of them.
First of all, I got your packages, Mom. THANK YOU! I loved the stuff you sent. The stickers are really fun. I love stickers. The chocolate is great :) and I like the pencil sharpeners and stationary. Thanks a lot. I really liked getting the packages.
President Monestel told me to have more faith. baaaaaaahhhh. I was about to write about how hard it is for me to have faith. I guess I should write, Wow! I´m going to have so much faith. And my companions and God and my leaders will help me develop more faith. And my faith will help me and help me to help others find peace and happiness and forgiveness in Christ. And it´s going to be great! That actually made me feel better. yay! Faith! But yeah. He said if you grow your faith, God will bless you.
It´s been a funny week. We have had some funny lessons. We found Oscar again. He´s gone to church a ton but we have hardly taught him anything. He talked to us about wanting to be a good joven (young man) and stop doing all the bad stuff that he does. Jamilet was like, what have you done? Killed somebody? So Hna Zapeta asked him what things he has done. He told us what he had done the night before. And he told it a really funny but super sincere way. He really feels bad. The night before there was a picado (drunk) asleep in the street. And Oscar searched his pockets and robbed him. He probably only had like 50 cordobas on him, which is about 2 dollars. He really wants to change. He´s a cool kid.
Piano classes are going well. We had two investigators come and I think they enjoyed it. Milton and Esau and Hna Zapeta are learning fast.
Pedro and Teresa still haven´t gone to church. They finally accepted a baptismal date. She hadn´t accepted one before becuase she said that she wouldn´t feel right getting baptized without being married. Let´s get you married then. It´s so funny when we talk to couples about getting married because it´s like they don´t want to admit that they love each other. One says, well, I want to get married , but I don´t know what s/he thinks. So we ask. Well, do you love her? And it´s just really awesome. The truth comes out. haha. We had to do the baptismal challenge like 3 times for Pedro.
I love Masatepe! I love the people here! I think it´s time for me to move on. But today we find out what the transfers are..... who knows?
We´ve been teaching Isabel. Shes super super super shy. We teach her with one of her friends that is a member, Angla. Angela is 16 and she´s super shy too. I´ve been trying to be her friend for four months and I think I finally got there. Anyone, Isabel has opened up a lot and it answering a lot more questions. When we leave committments, we commit them both. Isabel was reading the lesson 1 pamphlet before we even left! She was reading the Joseph Smith Sacred Grove story. Cool!
Ivania (this is a different Ivania) went to church this Sunday. She really liked it. She said, so I´m going to be going to the Principle of the Gospel class for the next year. Yes. yes you are! Her husband, Luis, has never gone to a church. He wants to learn more. The hard thing is that they work in Jinotepe and come home late. Also, he has a contract to play basketball every Sunday morning. He can earn 300 cordobas for playing, and that´s a good chunk of money here. It´s about 13 dollars. We talked about them getting married and baptized. We taught them about prophets and Joseph Smith and their homework is to pray. They are a nice couple. She really wants to learn.
Abel and Marcela are probably my favorites. They are so fun! They aren´t married and have had some problems but Marcela always says she doesn´t care about Abel. and sometimes Abel says that too, but it´s totally a lie. They care about each other, they just need some forgiveness and repentence. They need the gospel. we are going to have a noche de hogar with them tonight and we´re going to talk about faith and repentence. Marcela told us that she doesn´t feel good about going to church becuase she feels so guilty for things she has done. They are a really fun couple and they have an adorable little girl, Leiny. She´s ridiculously cute!
I feel like Hna Zapeta and I are always trying to get couples to show and say that they love each other. We´ve started a habit of chanting beso! beso! beso! with Abel and Marcela. It´s especially funny when Marcela is mad at Abel for something. bahahaha.
Well, family. Ya me voy para Rivas. haha. Rivas is super far away and we´ve been joking around for the past 3 weeks that I have changes and I´m going to Rivas. Then I tell Hna. Zapeta that she´s going. Ya se va para Rivas. And then we say ya nos vamos para Rivas. But it´s all a joke. I still don´t know where I am going. But a donde me manda iré. Okay. Thanks for the letters all! Thanks for the pictures. You are all looking good. David is cute. It´s nice to see yall.
With mucho amor, cariño y FAITH!
Hna Tew

Hna Tew
